NHS Frontline Heroes
A special award for the men and women on the frontline in the battle against Covid-19, all over the country.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge paid tribute to the heroes of the NHS in one of the most moving and powerful moments in the 2020 show.
With the nation united in admiration, respect and gratitude for the men and women on the frontline in the battle against Covid-19, the Pride of Britain judges unanimously agreed they all deserved to be recognised with a special recognition award.
Prince William and his wife Catherine presented the award at Barts, the oldest free hospital in Britain, where they have been treating patients for nearly 1,000 years.
Our NHS heroes from every corner of the country were represented by staff from Barts and the Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust, including porter Helder Lopes Landim, ITU support nurse Martha Sarpong, critical care physio Charlotte Greenfield, intensive care matron Keisha Mills, health care assistant Marion Jones and intensive care consultant Dr Simon Finney.
And in an especially poignant moment, the royal couple were introduced by Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway, whose husband Derek Draper remains seriously ill in hospital after contracting Covid-19 in March.
The award honours the extraordinary dedication of frontline staff who led the charge in the battle against the virus.
From doctors and nurses to porters, orderlies, carers and cleaners, they stood firm under almost intolerable pressure to keep us all safe, even though they knew they could be risking their lives to protect ours.
They truly are the Pride of Britain.
